AN APPEAL TO THE CITIZENS OF JALANDHAR TO SPREAD THE MESSAGE TO MAKE THE SUPREME DONATION - DONATE EYES
Bowry
Memorial Educational and Medical Trust and Kalashree(BMC Chowk) are
collaborating to observe “Eye Donation Day” at 73, Udham Singh Nagar to promote
awareness about eye donation. This day is observed every year in fond memory of
Archit and Dhruv, two very special children whose eyes were donated and gave
light to three persons who had lost their eyesight. Medical Secretary of the
Bowry Memorial Educational and Medical Trust Dr.Chander BowryandMr. Dinesh Aggarwal
of Kalashree explained that just as eye donation is considered a noble act in
western countries where people voluntarily donate their eyes as they are
socially aware, in the same way it is necessary that the awareness of eye
donation and its advantages to mankind should be spread among the people of our
country also. An appeal is made to the government to spread awareness among the
citizens and also to include the topic in the syllabus of Class XII as to how
donation of organs including eyes can save and improve the life of innumerable
people in the future. The applications of driving license and other identity
card applications should have the provision of eye and organ donation forms. There
are presently about 20 organisations will work continuously in this regard
along with the police force in order to spread the message effectively and
quickly. Dr.ChanderBowry and Dr.AnupBowry appeal to the citizens of the city to
include maximum number of the population in this drive and get themselves and
others registered for ‘Eye Donation’. In addition all those who require
transplant of eyes and even corneas should register themselves with the “Archit
and Dhruv Eye Donation and Collection Centre” at Udham Singh Nagar. As the
parts become available they will be informed. So far around 4980 people have
registered to donate their eyes after death. It is very essential that this
message should spread to the maximum to help the needy.
